Nawarei is a top, rigger, sadist and educator. He has long been a mainstay of the Sydney kink community, where he’s heavily involved in the local rope scene. He has consistently displayed his commitment to, and enthusiasm for giving back to the community, sharing his time, skills and even home to teach weekly classes and to facilitate a wide range of regular events. While Nawarei has always been happy to largely focus his efforts on his local community, he has nevertheless taught and performed interstate and internationally, and regular returns to his native New Zealand. He is a talented and passionate teacher, with a particular skill for connecting with students and expressing himself with refreshing directness and clarity.

Nawarei has a unique and highly distinctive style of rope, one which is as much an expression of connection as bondage. He has seamlessly drawn on elements from wide range of disparate sources, not in the least being some of the great masters who he has learnt from – including Nawashi Kanna, Hajime Kinoko, Kazami Ranki, Hourai Kasumi, Esinem, Osada Steve and locally Mark DV8.

Sometimes rough, yet often intimate – sometimes brutal, yet always connective – he isn’t afraid to embrace contrast and, when necessary, contradiction, for within violence is the unguarded expression of emotion – love, tenderness, needing, caring. He claims control, placing his partner at his mercy and taking them on a journey, one of his own devising.

While rope has been the primary expression of Nawarei’s kink life, he nevertheless has much to offer in many other spheres. He has a particular interest in sadism and masochism in and of themselves – why it is that we do what we do – coming to understand the underlying drives that are common to so many expressions of sadomasochism. Having been called at times a ‘lazy sadist’, he revels in the ability to inflict his desired pain upon his partner with the minimum of effort – a true expression of control. He also enjoys exploring the intersection between creativity and kink, with passions for artistic photography and music.
