Osada Steve
Osada Steve, born in Germany, is a Japanese Kinbaku artist, stage performer, and educator. Until settling down in Japan, he has lived in various regions of Asia for almost half a decade
Osada Steve developed a passion for Japanese rope arts, back in 1998, after taking up his old profession as a photographer in Tokyo, he started apprenticing Kinbaku and quickly became not only a close personal friend, assistant, and student, but perhaps, one may say ”nawa deshi” of the late Grand Master Osada Eikichi. Having resided in Tokyo for over 30 years and done Bondage since 1998, Osada Steve has learned the rope arts the truly hard way as a “gaijin” (foreigner), Osada Steve has become widely recognized both in and outside Japan as one of the world’s most skilled rope artists and evolving professional stage performers. By combining his many years of teaching experience from the martial arts with his vision to join up the traditional Japanese dojo environment in a system of learning the basics of Kinbaku, Osada Ryu was born.
Osada Steve teaches Kinbaku to be an effective, yet safe way of ropes with his so far quite unparallelled schooling system. The Osada Ryu offers the student a both mindful, spiritual, entertaining and personally as well as technically challenging journey of learning the ropes. Though it may seem fairly simple, yet it took an “outsider” to join together the historic Japanese traditions to form a path of basic Kinbaku learning. Osada Steve’s love and passion for Japanese tradition and combining the culture of both today and the past, seems reflected everywhere in his way of mastering the rope arts as we see him continuously evolving and challenging his own skills. Because he seems to never stop evolving, he seems to always being able to challenge his students to go further and encourages them to find their own path and expression.
As Osada Steve Sensei keeps studying further and digging even deeper into Kinbaku, his devotion seems to be powered by passion and eager curiosity with a clear and present benefit to his students worldwide, as Sensei gladly passes on his life’s achievements to people who may want to study with sufficient patience and respecting the basics. Osada Ryu enables students to find their own path over time by learning to challenge their skills and creativity through mindful practice and repetitions thus systematically building a solid foundation of basic skills, and by adding personal reflection and understanding to the process.
