Sparks 2022
It is with great pleasure that we announce that Studio Kink will be hosting Sparks at Studio Kink Sydney in January 2022 (unfortunately rescheduled from September 2021 due to Covid lockdowns and restrictions in NSW).
Sparks began tying in early 2015 with Emerald where they soon both found a passion for rope. Learning quickly both locally and travelling interstate at every chance to further knowledge. Sparks began taking on an educational role and not long thereafter they began teaching and performing interstate. Rope then carried through to travelling to Japan to further continue his education.
In February of 2020, during his trip to Japan, Sparks was accepted into the position of Deshi to Nawashi Kanna Sensei and received his teaching certificate in the style of Kanna Ryu. Making him 1 of 2 people in this position worldwide, and with further development has been called a 'Shihan' instructor by Kanna San under Kanna Ryu.
His early trouble shooting and un-canny memory enables him to modify and skilfully adapt ties to each model. The deep intimacy and connections conveyed through rope is what Sparks enjoys most about Shibari. This along with the precision and control imbedded into Kanna Ryu, is how he shapes his ties, and create experiences, each unique to itself just as the next.
Workshops
We will be running a Friday evening class from 6pm to 9pm.
There will also be a weekend intensive running Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
Friday Night Class - Kanna Ryu Principles & Fundamental Ties
Friday 28th January from 6pm - 9pm
Based heavily in semenawa, Kanna San’s control of tension, placement and purpose is uniquely refined, all beginning with the way we think about what we are tying and how that process works. With Sparks, we will move through the fundamental building blocks of Kanna-Ryu. Starting with the TK and learning the different concepts that are utilised in this style, then moving through to different ties as we go.
Level: All levels welcome.
Weekend Intensive - Semenawa in Partials & Suspension Intensive
Semenawa in Partials
Saturday 29th January from 11am - 5pm
Kanna San is infamous for utilising semenawa (torture rope). This workshop will go through a number of different ties design for discomfort and that painful pleasure. From basic 1 rope ideas to elaborate partials, patterns and concepts. Learn how to play with a number of different aspects, use lines, carefully control everything we do to our desired effect and most importantly, the safety aspects behind them.
Level: Intermediate - Advanced
Suspension Intensive
Sunday 30th January from 11am - 5pm
Focusing on suspensions and harnesses built for purpose. This class will go over suspension techniques to improve your skills, adapt the rope to your model, finesse line management, and of course add the Kanna Ryu semenawa we love so much.

Private Lessons
A limited number of private lessons will be available. These are only available to those attending the Friday night class or the weekend intensive. Private lessons are booked in 2 hour allocations, are limited to 2 people only, and are non-transferable or refundable.
